Evinrude 9.9 no spark

Hello, so I pulled my Evinrude 9.9 out of storage and tried to fire it up. There was no spark on either plugs (borrowed a spark tester). In reading it seems that the next step is to get the manual however I have no idea what year. The model number is CD-20C with serial C356295. I can't seem to find the manual as only google hit came back to 1965 5.5 Johnson. Any help with the manual and or trouble shooting the no spark issue would be greatly appreciated.

Well the model number you indicated (CD-20C) is the model number for a 1963 5.5Hp Johnson outboard. Do you have anything else to describe it. A picture perhaps?

It is definitely not 5.5 HP. I am going by memory but think it looks very similar to the following:

Yes. It is definitely not a Johnson 5.5Hp. Was that model number on the transom plate of the motor in the picture? In any event, it looks a lot like a 1981 9.9 Hp motor.

As for the spark. Probably your powerpack but perhaps someone else can help you there. My youngest motor is a 1976 and they used points and condensers back then so I am not too familiar with CDIs and powerpacks.

The one thing you could check that is common on both types is to disconnect your kill switch. The wire going from the kill switch on the front should have a connector on it. Just disconnect it and test your spark again. If it was shorting out you will ground out your spark, which is what kills the motor. Quick test to rule it out as the culprit.

No, not the one in the picture, that was from google images. I will take a picture of the my motor this weekend and also try the kill switch suggestions. Thanks!!
