evinrude 90 overheat

hi <br /><br /> i have an 85 evinrude 90 which i have just purchased , recentley while doing approx 25 mph in moderate conditions , the over heat buzzer sounded , at the same time i was experiencing some cavitaion issues as i have not as yet got used to the trim settings of this boat , are these issues related

Welcome to iboats and maybe.<br /><br />You might have picked up some weeds. They foul the prop and suck air from the surface if it gets bad enough. The water pump intakes can clog as well. Otherwise the intakes are well in the water at any trim angle on your average setup.<br /><br />There are a few things I automatically do when I get a used motor. New sparkplugs, fresh gearlube, and I rebuild the water pump. Otherwise you never know how old they are.
