Howdy, Cool.

Please don't shout or beg. It just clutters up your request. Just ask your question.

You give us too little information to do you any good.

Have you confirmed that there is spark to both cylinders? Have you inspected the spark plugs to see if they are fouled or wet? Have you tried spraying some fuel mix into the carb before you try to start? Why do you have to hand wind the rope? Is your recoil starter broken or is it missing?

Have you got a manual?

Let us know. :)

Re: evinrude 97 6hp

Sorry....... the coil doesnot rewind because the spring is shot! How do I test the plugs? what do I spray into the Carb.... How can I trouble shoot it. When I put a drop of gas in each Cylinder it starts up, but I hate doing this....... sorry :(

Howdy, Cool.

To check spark remove both spark plugs and put the threads in contact with the block. Spin the engine over and look for a bright blue spark in each plug.

Since you say it will start if you prime the cylinders with gas, the spark is probably okay. What is left is that you probably aren't getting enough fuel for starting. That could be:
1. Incorrect starting procedure.
2. Weak fuel pump.
3. gummed up carburetor.

You say it will start if primed. If it continues to run your problem is probably starting procedure. If not, carb or fuel pump.

To start cold:
Pump primer bulb until hard.
Apply full choke.
Pull her through. If no "pop" do it again. If it does "pop" reduce choke to half and pull her through again. She should start.

Let us know what you find. :)

Howdy again, Cool.

Again, Cool, you have to give us information or we can't be any help.

What did you do? Did you check for spark?

Spray some fuel mix into the carb with a spray bottle and try it again.

sounds good that you can get it to pop. Make sure you start with fresh gas and oil in a clean tank. You may just have bad gas. If it's more than a month old, get rid of it. (I'm becoming more of a believer on this point -- just had some gas go bad after only about three weeks in the tank.)

Yes, but it's hard to mount the lawn mower on the stern of the boat.

Just for grins, I think I would try some fresh gas and oil. You can always claim it started because you also tweaked the idle adjustment or adjusted the choke linkage. We will believe you.
