evinrude backfiring

I picked up a boat back in the winter,and after going over some of the small problems. i started it today, and after warming it up...i brought it back to idle and it back fired every couple seconds.but when i rev it back up and it doesn't back fires until back at idle..any ideals?? thanks. sorry 1998 130 hp etec

Carb blockage, put your hand in each carb throat to act as a choke until you find which one it is, or clean them all

Are you sure it is a 1998 E-tec ----Best to post a picture or a model # because your information is not right !

It is a 1998 carbureted looper engine.-----Try opening low speed mixture screws 1/4 turn each.

racerone your are right, its a 1998.I will give it a go maybe one night after work thanks.
