I don't know the model number But I have a few deals. It's my brothers outboard.

1973 Evinrude
Guessing 70-85 horse
I do know it has 3 carbs.

On cold start (sitting a week) the engine is hard to start, but will fire up. After that it will just pop over like it should.
Just recently it started acting up.
If he hits the throttle to fast it will just bogg out and studder. But if he's easy on the gas it will come up to full throttle.

He's not wanting to spend tons of money, but the out board shop said he can fix it for around 300. Sounds like a lot to me.

I'm thinking he's got a fuel related issue. Carbs or fuel pump.
He said it's taken the carbs off and cleaned them, but haven't rebuilt them.

Ideas or tips? When I talk with him later this week I can get a model number.

Re: Evinrude bogging out.

Do what a service center would do.......

Check compression first..

Check for the quality of spark...

Check fuel delivery....

You mentioned he had cleaned the carbs.....if reusing the old gaskets, it could cause air leaks. I would put kits it the carbs if going to the troubleof wrenching them off.

Check the carb and spark timing...
