This summer I took my control box apart to replace the ignition switch. When I tried to put it back together I could not get the spring and ball bearing back. I believe it acts as the detent while shifting.

Any suggestions on how to get the ball and spring back in when assembling the contol box?

BTW it is an Evinrude control box. 1978 85HP Evinrude.

Re: Evinrude Control Box

Have the components on that side of the control box asembled as they should be. Remove the plate/cover that enclosed the spring/ball. Have the throttle/shift cam aligned in the neutral position so that the detent in the plastic cam is aligned with the spring holder.

Install the ball, then the spring, then while holding the spring down (if needed), install the cover plate and screw.
