My 1971 Evinrude 25 hp , cylinder head won't come off .

I removed the 10 bolts on the cylinder head . 1 bolt broke off just below the head of the bolt .
Is the broken bolt why it won't come off or is there something else I need to take off ?
What do I need to do?

Thanks
Markus

Re: Evinrude Cylinder Head Removal

The bolt may put it in a bind.

And its possibly seized the bolt to the head .

Spray it with PB blaster , or the like.

You might want to use a thin punch ,and rap on the end of broken bolt to free it up.

But you should be able to remove it.

Use a soft hammer (brass) , and tap around the edges.

Then , so as to not damage the mating surfaces , try to pry it apart.

A chisel gently tapped between the surfaces , will force it to start opening up.

Be very carefull , dont damage the surfaces.

You can more then likely , loosen it up enough tapping on it , so the prying wont be excessive.

Depending on the length of the broken bolt.

It may have to be lifted off very evenly.

Just tap the head sideways until it breaks free.
