I'm debating between buying a 70HP Yamaha outboard and a 75 HP Evinrude E-Tech and a 75 HP Mercury. The e-Tech is about $1400 more expensive than the Yamaha and the Yamaha is about $1000 more than the Mercury. Any suggestions as to which engine to buy?

Are they all two strokes?

lbp1126,

There is a little bit of an apples to oranges comparison here. The Yam and the Merc. are conventional 2-stroke technology. At least I think you are comparing two strokes.

The E-Tec is high tech direct injection technology. No comparison to conventional 2 strokes.

The E-Tec fascinates me. I think Bombardier is on to something.

With that said, none of the engines you mention are bad ones. I have alot of experience with a Merc. 75. It has been a good one for us.

Keep in mind that 2005 will be the last model year for new carbed two-stokes.

So, the eTech will be in production after the other two have been discontinued.

That may or may not have any impact on you, but needs to be mentioned.
