My buddy just got this motor for free from his grandfather it has a 25 hp evinrude model # e25ecua. The motor has not been run in about two years. We took the carb bowl bolt out and drained old fuel out (Brown Organge color and thick). Primed with regular mixed fuel and it started up but would't stay running long. You could give it some gas it would rev up then start to die then choke it to keep it running. I guessing the motor is not getting enough fuel due to the dirty carb. We will rebuild it. But one question I have is that when we ran the motor, if your looking at the carb intake there is a small orvice at about the 10 oclock position it was leaking out fuel pretty good. Again probably from the dirty carb. What is this hole? What is it's function? And what exactly would make it leak out this much fuel.

Any advice on how to procede with this motor will help.

I'm not sure what the hole is on that model but the fuel leakage is probably from a stuck float or a gunked up needle valve. Rebuild the entire carb and all should be good :)

The hole is the bowl vent. Gas is spewing out because the float valve is gummed up from that old syrupy gas. Ditto for the high speed orfice plug behind the plut that you took out to drain it, that's why it won't run without choking it.

Clean the carb thoroughly and put in a BRP OEM factory repair kit. Make sure you get the high speed orfice shiny clean.
