Evinrude Experts Advice Needed!!!! Are 76 and 77 85hp Evinrude parts interchangeable?

I have the opportunity to buy 2 85hp Rudes' for less than $400. 76 is a runner with 110 in all 4 cylinders and comes with controls etc but not PTT, 77 unknown but ALL there including PTT and appearances and history are favorable. Just wondering if parts are interchangeable so two could be made into one!!! Your knowledge and expertise would be appreciated.

I know with the 70 HP, most parts are interchangeable. An Evinrude expert will know for sure about the 85.

You could go to one of the online parts sites and compare the two engines.

Seems to me 77 was a year where they started to change things to go to a newer ignition system. A lot of parts will most likely be interchangeable but for some reason I think the exhaust adaptor (between powerhead and exhaust housing) bolts differently. Best to check the exploded view carefully.

Go to shop.evinrude.com, look up the motors and compare parts. The ignition systems and lower units should be the same.
