Evinrude Experts-->What wires go where on an older Evinrude ('62,40hp)

1962 Evinrude 40hp Model#35531m<br /><br />I have this motor and need to hook the key switch up so can see if it runs. It has the wiring harness that leads to the motor, but some of the colors are faded. do not have the other half of the harness that leads to the key switch. need to know what wires are in this harness, and which ones needed to go to the key switch. <br /><br />I got a wiring diagram of a '66 rude 40hp but the colors do not seem to match up with the '62. The 66 should be about the same. it has five posts on the key switch. Battery, Accessory, Solenoid, and two others can not make out.<br /><br />Any help will be greatly recieved!!

Does your motor have electric shift my book shows two different color codes for electric shift. but does show that 62 and 66 40 h/p wires the same if manuel shift

If you just want to test run the motor,why don't you just pull the rope? This motor will run just fine with out a key switch. Just find the kill wires so you can stop it. Or stuff a shop rag in the carb (emergency stopping procedure #1). Pulling on the choke works as well.

It is a manual shift.

Rope not working correctly, in process of getting new spring.

Great, For testing purposes jump direct from battery to starter. Use jumper cables.
