I think it's a 1957 but not positive. The numbers are 15020-11402. I need a new recoil spring but I don't know if I need to special order one or if I can get one at the local dealer. Also is there a decent wbsite where I can find parts?

Also can someone explain the choke to me. The choke is as it was when I got it. There is a flap inside the carb. that is operated by the pull choke. There is also a second flap that is not hooked up to the pull choke towards the outer edge of the cab. It looks like there was a spring on the outside of the carb that would operate both flaps at once. When the choke is out, the inside flap is closed and the outside one is open and vice versa. Hopefully you got that. :) My question is does it make a difference if this second flap is working or not. I know its a lot of questions for my first post but hopefully someone can help.

Yes, there are two butterfly valves in that carb. One is the choke and the other is the throttle. When you open the throttle it lets in more air. I don't think they should be tied together, from what I recall.

I second, these are GREAT motors.

They are tied together through a linkage, not a spring. the outer one is a choke and the inner the throttle. As you pill the choke out, the outer one should close and the inner open slightly. Rick

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm actually cleaning it up right know. As for the valves, I did find a spring in the bottom of the motor that fits exactly to the choke. I'll try and post a pick later on.

The outside valve never moved when the throttle was moved. The valve just sat there freely. The spring that I found looks like it connects to the linkage for the choke.

I took pictures of my 1956. The carbs are the same. Send me a pm with your email and I will send them. they are too big to post and a pain to resize and lose resolution. Rick

I took some pics of mine before I tore it apart to rebuild it. Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot rjezuit. The spring on the bottom of the linkage in your bottom pick is what was missing. I ordered a new recoil spring and pawl today. Now my next project is replacing the points and coil. I ran the motor most of last summer and it ran great. Then in the fall while duck hunting it started missing at idle speed. Hopefully replacing the coil and points will help.
