Hi guyz.
Maybe someone on here can help me out by answering this question for me.
I have an old Fastwin my father told me was late 60's early 70's were not sure of the exact yr. Serial #18902B-E04904
This motor has never seen salt water & when you take the cover off looks like a new motor.
It has always ran great & never gave me any trouble.
I put it into gear while the RPM's were to high & striped out the lower end gears that connect to the prop shaft.
Heres the question.
I read somewhere that Johnson & Evinrude back then used the same lower ends on the 15-30 hp motors.
Is this true & are any of the fastwin lower ends compatible or interchangeable.
I need to find a good lower end because durring a move a couple yrs ago I lost the parts after taking it appart, which also included the bottom fin & prop.
Any help with this question would be greatly appriciated.
Thanx.

If you change out the whole lower unit as a complete unit with driveshaft and all, you could probably use any 18-20hp lower unit from '57 to about '78. The '50s 25-35hp lower units will not work. The early '70s and late '60s 25hp lower units will work as a unit as well.
Good luck,
JBJ

Thanx JBJ. I was hoping for that.
I found a lower unit off a Fastwin 15hp for $50
But I see people asking about motor yrs by serial & havent been able to find anything to help me determine the yr of my motor. If anuyone can help me with that it would help out as well sio I can try to find a manual for it.
Thanx

Re: Evinrude Fastwin Lower End Compatibility Late 60's Early 70's

Can anyone tell me if a prop from 15-30 will fit on my 18hp shaft.
Iver looked on ebay & the 15 and 25 hp props look the same.
Just wann make sure so I can find the right prop.
Can anyone tell me what the compatibility of props on the fastwins are.
Thanx again guyz.
