Evinrude Ficht warning signal

I have a 2002 Evinrude Ficht 200 h.p. Recently while starting the engine on the water after being operated all day, the audible warning horn remained on at start without any accompanying lights on the dash. I was able to disable the horn by turning the key to the left just enough to turn off my dash power, but kept the engine on until I hightailed it home (less than 1 mile). My fuel level is good, oil level good, water pump working - but the horn remains on constant after start. I thought it might have something to do with the key ignition so I replaced that which apparently wasn't the problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks all.
Mike

I think that the constant alarm is usually for overheat and low fuel and/or oil flow. Even though you have enough fuel or oil there may be a blockage causing the alarm. I doubt it's an overheat since you said it does it even right when you first start. I'd try and find the problem before running it again, just in case you do have a fuel/oil flow problem.

Re: Evinrude Ficht warning signal

Your Evinrude FICHT 200 has a completely different warning system, called System Check, compared to 1995 and older motors which used a series of "beeps" to determine any problem.

The SystemCheck warning horn is actually a driver, similar to a loudspeaker, that is actuated by the 4-LED SystemCheck gauge. Since no warning lites are on while the horn sounds, most likely the internals of the gauge are bad. Substitute a known good gauge to see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks for the advice.. I just can't figure out why none of the warning lights stay on on the dash. They all light up on shut off during the initial start as they should.

Seahorse, looks like we posted at the same time. The lights all light up initially and then go off as if no problem.

That's why I'm thinking that it is a bad gauge, because the self test works, but it is the gauge that "tells" the horn when to beep and for how long.
