Hi, i have a 1955 fleewtin 7.5, and on the iside of the cover it says use 1/2 pint of oil to every gal or 16to 1 ratio. i think that is kinda rich on the oil side, and also scince the oils are better today, can i run a leaner oil? and what oil should i use? thanks,

nitroboy543

Hello Nitroboy
You can run the recomended 24:1. That is 1 quart per six gals of gas. The lable in your hood recomends the 16:1, when you don't have good 2-stroke oil. In those days you could get by with non-deturgent #30 at the 16:1. You could probably get by with a leaner oil mix today. But I would not recomend it. Those older engines use babbot style bearings instead of rollers and balls. They like oil, give it to them and they will run--for ever? 24:1 is the way to go.
