Evinrude fleetwin 7.5

I just pick up and Evinrude fleetwin 7.5 hp i was wondering what year it is, the serial number on it is 7516 22857. Also is this a decent engine? Can anyone help?

It is a 1954, and yes, they are very smooth, reliable engines with lots of parts available. Replace the coils if it still has originals, they WILL fail after 40 years or so gaurenteed.

Hmmm... isn't that like 55 years? :) Must be that confounded 'new' math!

They are good engines. I have 1 also. 24:1 mixture. tcw-3 oil. It's a pain to change the water pump impeller on those models though... But it should be done... Read 'awakening a sleeping outboard' at the the top of this forum. There's good info there.

Absolutely, it is 55 years. But the coils start failing after about 40 years!

You mean those coils had a trouble free first 39 years? Dang I shoulda bought my engines years ago... Coulda saved putting coils in them!
