Evinrude Fuel Pump Information

I have an 87 40 hp Evinrude model #TLCUD. After de-winterizing boat I noticed that my fuel pump had a bad leak. I could not find a rebuild kit for the pump, since I have no idea what the part# is for pump. I was sold a fuel pump part #438560. My problem is that the output nipple on the new pump is much smaller in diameter than the nipple on the old pump. I assume that this is a concern for fuel flow. The nipple does thread in, so maybe there is a way to exchange the nipple to a larger one? Thanks for any info.

I purchased it from Pauls Marine, here in Columbus, Ohio. It is an OMC part and I was told that it should work on my motor. It appears that everything matches up, except for the difference in size of the output nipple.

Re: Evinrude Fuel Pump Information

Might I add that the pump that is shown to be on the motor # 0438556, is not the pump that I had the original leak with. I purchased the pump that is shown on manual but it does not match up with motor. The 0438556 pump has the pulse connection on the back side of pump, and I need for the pulse to come off of the bottom. I think there were some modifications made on this motor when the original owner removed the VRO.

Can you swap the nipple from the old pump to the new pump?

Unfortunately, I can't. Both pumps have a plastic housing for the output nipple. The old pump is one piece molded, the new pump has a threaded nipple that can be removed. I guess I need to find a threaded nipple with a larger diameter at the fuel line connection.

Hang tight. Someone with fuel pump knowledge will end up chiming in.
