Do a compression check on it to see if you have something to work with. Then do a spark test on an open air gap spark tester.

Did you have all the plugs out when you did the test and was it cranking over fast enough ?? Those #'s are way to low. May want to try a different gauge. If you check it again and get the same numbers, pull the heads.

That is extremely low compression. Can we assume the paint is burned on the heads and block? If so, we can pretty much assume the engine is cooked. At the very least, you will have to replace the head gaskets and exhaust cover gaskets (between the heads). When you get those off, you will be able to make a little better determination of just what you have. The pistons are most likely scored, and you can see that through the exhaust ports.

I'll bet the water pump impeller hub spun. I've seen lots of them that way.

Agree, compression should be in the 125 lbs range. At this point, I'd pull the heads and see if the head gasket seal rings are shot. Could be just needing two head gaskets. When the heads are off, check them for flatness.

Re: evinrude got overheated

i just did a second com test with another gauge
cil 1:131
cil 2: 121
cil 3:150
cil 4: 152
that is a big difference from my first readings so wat could be next to check?

Re: evinrude got overheated

It should at least start with that compression. You must consider there might be something else wrong, possibly not even related to the overheating. Fuel? Ignition?

Even so, we have to go back to the overheating issue. Has the cause of that been identified and corrected? Has the motor been run and used since then? Finally, please answer my first question---is the paint burned? If it is, and damage has not been accessed and corrected, you are beating a dead horse.

So many unknowns and nobody here has a working crystal ball to answer them.

Check your spark with an open air gap spark tester set at 7/16" and if that's okay try to get it running. Carbs ?? There is also to much difference in your compression readings.

yes the paint is a lil burned out the cause of the overheating was a bad impeller and since that day the motor is been just not running at all is been like 4 years ago

Re: evinrude got overheated

Well back to what I said, further inspection is needed. As a very minimum, the head gaskets and all exhaust gaskets must be replaced. As you do that, you will be able to see the exhaust (hot) side of the pistons, and look for scoring, stuck rings, etc. If you don't have a sound powerhead, nothing else really matters. This could easily turn into a major rebuild. Are you capable or willing to do that? If you have to have it done by a pro, it will cost you hundreds, if not thousands.

It is deemed acceptable for compression to vary up to 10% between cylinders. Your compression numbers are out of the "normal" tolerance range. Best not to continue to run it till you know more. Follow FR's comments. More investigation is required. I'd pull the #1 head for sure. (the lowest compression head) and inspect the head gasket and cyl liners, top piston ring.

Re: evinrude got overheated

Remove the bypass covers and inspect pistons and rings.----6 bolts each and 99 cent gaskets.
