I've got a 1969 55hp evinrude 3 cylinder model with hydro electric/ selectric gearbox..I'm suppose to use a premium blend or type c oil as its a very fine or thin lube but I'm having problems getting any in Australia..is there something else that I could use that's similar maybe transmission fluid or some type or motorbike gearbox oil..any help would be greatly appreciated..
Cheers

All the OMC parts in NZ are sourced from BRP in Australia. I think they have a product called Premium blend have you asked for that?

Where I live there's alot of Marine shops but they don't sell it and I'd have to get it posted to me..I was looking more towards an alternative oil that'll b more easily bought..I tried what one shop said was a premium oil but didn't make any difference..is there a way also that I can flush it? Can I use fuel as it may be blocked
Cheers

I believe the manuals say you can use Dexron atf. I'll verify that next week when I get home, unless somebody beats me to it.

You will want a very thin atf.

Any thing thick needs to be washed out as itl cause problems. id start draining already if it was me

That G/C requires the Premium blend oil. But as F_R said you might get by with Dextron ATF but that is not rated for marine use in water.

The one I bought was EP-90 that's all they had..I got it because it hasn't had an oil change in a couple years and was sitting in my grandfathers shed.so although it wasnt the right oil i just thought id put somthing new in..the oil that was in it was like new i shouldve poured it back in but didnt know it had to take a special oil..he bought the motor new back in early 1970 and never gave him problems.he did sell the boat with the controls on it so I've had to use an old headlight switch from back in the days..works fine I can hear the solenoids click on every change but still no change..can I drain the oil and put fuel or something in it to clean out the box of old oils/build up etc..how would I go about it? Would I just pour fuel in and start it or will that explode
Cheers

90w is too thick. Aim for 80w or below if you can get it
I wouldnt start it with petrol in there, just get the right oil and pump it through a few times

All I can say is get the correct oil. If the EP 90 works, try it. But it's your G/C.
