Evinrude info please

hello I'm new to the forum.Ijust bought a 15 horse used evinrude,15012-35926 serial number.Would like to know the sprk plug gap setting and points setting.tried to fire it up and it tries to start and then backfires and pops .thank,s driftwwod!

Howdy, Jeff.<br /><br />Welcome to iboats. <br /><br />Your engine is a '53-'54.<br /><br />Plugs should be Champion J6C gapped at .030"<br /><br />Set points at .020"<br /><br />Fuel mix is 24:1; 1qt. TC-W3 oil to 6 gallons 87 octane regular.<br /><br />You may have a "loose" flywheel (sheared key).<br /><br />Could also be a carb problem.<br /><br />Check out "Outboard wont start" in the Engine FAQs forum.<br /><br />Good luck, and let us know what happens.

jeff, i have a 1955 15hp erude. greatest motor i have ever had. starts 1st or 2nd pull idles great, will troll for hours or run like the wind.
