Evinrude Issues

This happened over the weekend but I just got back into our home port of Nordland the day before and went to start the engine to go drop some crab pots. It started up but took 2 attempts, had normal cooling water coming out of the starboard exhaust but only 1/2 as much out of the port exhaust. To add onto that there was a lot of vibrations, more than normal and a ton of white smoke for 10-40 seconds, plus brown oil leaking out of the propwash director. I shut it down and attempted to start it back up to see if it would change but it wouldn't start. Just a dry, metal-on-metal sound coming from the powerhead once or twice a second while cranking. We had about 4/5 of our 18 gallon tank left, ethanol-free gas with the proper 50-1 ratio for oil. She ran fine the day before but what the heck is this. This is the only photo I have but the circle with the metal rudder is the propwash director.

Normal stuff needed, what motor, what year, model number....

That's the hard part. I know it is a 70 horsepower Evinrude but that is all. No serial number that I can find ( I looked pretty hard but will look again), no year, no other information.

I will definately do that. A guy on another forum and my uncle who is a mechanic suggested the same thing. Check the compression, check the spark plugs, etc.
