Evinrude/Johnson lower unit

Can anyone tell me where I can find out if a lower unit from a 1975 50 horse Johnson is interchangable with a 1984 50 horse Evinrude?

it is not, the shift linkage is different, and i believe the splines are also.

Thanks for the info, I bought a 84 Cajun bass boat with a 50 horse evinrude that has the lower unit torn apart. Been watching e-bay for a replacement and thats the closest I've found so far. Any ideas on which units are interchangeable? ( By the way nice siberian, I've got a three year old siberian also)
