Evinrude lark 3 no crank

Hello everyone! Hope all is well! I’m working on a 5-0’s evinrude lark 3. It’s on a 12 ft aluminum v bottom (it’s a homemade race boat) and I have it set up for steering in the front. Today I hooked up some toggle switches and boom. Nothing, I switched back over to the key, still nothing, I then rewired the entire motor, still nothing . I cleaned all the grounds and messed with the solenoid, eventually I got it to click a couple times but then just stopped. The only way I got it to work was by reversing the ground and the ignition side of the solenoid. Any help would be great thanks!

Model # of your motor ?-------Batteries / 12 volts / wiring can be confusing.----Find a wiring diagram.----Hopefully you are not putting 12 volts to the ignition coils.----Any pictures of your motor ?-----Might be as simple as the safety switch needing cleaning !
