I have a 1970 115hp evinrude that loses spark after it warms up. the motor is not overheating because you can hold your hand on the cylinders when it quits. it will restart after it has cooled aprox. 15 min. I have changed the coil, ign.saftey circuit, rebuilt carbs. I brought the boat to a guy that works on older outboards who was referred to me by several marinas. He did a complete ign. test and everything checked out ok. but he could not make the engine quit in the test tank, i dont think there is enough of a load to make it quit running in the tank. he told me he thought it was a fuel problem ,he reset the carbs and cleaned the tank vent and told me to try it. I did, same problem.I dont want to buy more expensive parts that i dont know will fix it and i can't seem to find anybody that can find the problem. any help would be great,I am about ready to pull the plug and swim to shore.

Hi, Wayne.

Put it back in the test tank and put a hair dryer on each part of the ignition system until it quits. Then replace the part you just heated.

Good luck. :)

I tried this trick with the hair dryer but can't make the motor quit.

Wayne 15, Go here. web page I have the same problem with my 1970 60HP Evinrude.Charging current is to high. Should'nt be over about 15.5 volts or it raises havoc with the amplifier. If I turn on accessories it runs much better.I installed a larger battery and will probably put in a new amplifier.Good luck.

The guy that worked on my motor told me that the powerpack had been changed. he said that with some aftermarket powerpacks it tells you in the instructions to bypass the ign. saftey switch when you install the new powerpack. has anybody ever heard of this?
