Evinrude lower unit interchange

I have a 1969 Evinrude 20 hp lower unit. Will it work on a 1966 Evinrude 18 hp motor. I can't find a site that will tell me if they will interchange. Thanks

There was no 20hp Evinrude in 1969. They offered 18 and 25hp. Johnson had 20 and 25hp. No matter, they all have the same lower unit and I can't think of any reason they shouldn't fit a 1966.

Sorry it was a 1969 Johnson 20 hp motor not an Evinrude, and thanks for the information. Is there a site that tells which parts are interchangable?

you should be able to bolt it right up johnson and evinrude basicly same

There is the BRP site with parts catalogs on line for 1968 and up. Unfortunatly, that doesn't help with the 1966. There are/were interchange guides available to dealers which show up on e-bay from time to time.

My reply was mostly from head knowledge acquired as a full time outboard dealer mechanic during those years. Plus I have a bunch of old books where I could look it up if I doubted my reply.
