Can anyone help me with this model number?

E6BFCIC

It was built in Belgium. I came up with Evinrude 6HP, 1981, what does the BF mean, and the C on the end is confusing me a little.

The BRP website doesn't list it (that I can find anyway).

Any ideas out there?

Thanks in advance!

E means Evinrude.
6 is the horsepower
BF means Belgium Derated, rope start
CI means 1981
C might not mean anything. Unless there was a mid-year change, and then it indicates the change.
Most complete list I know of is at http://www.skoterskroten.com/img/arsmodellstabell.pdf

BRP's model search doesn't show a 1981 6hp. There's a 4, then a jump to 7.5. Have another look at that model number. The B is probably an R, which is the designation for rope start. The C on the end is irrelevant, since it refers to some sort of production code.

Ah...never mind. The post above is correct. The BRP site is incorrect on that model. Interesting. I shall save the link.

Hello F_R & CATransplant,

thanks for the help, you both went to the same sources I tried. I already have this PDF saved on my hard drive, and the BRP site I tried before I picked up the motor and double check when I got home today.

I think BPR site only list the State side models. I found a U.S. sales brochure for 1981 Evinrude's and it only has 4, 4.5, & 7.5hp's listed for those years. So their list is correct, just not complete.

I did find a 6hp for 1979 in a Evinrude catalog, but the photos show a older design than what I have.

It will make the ordering of parts over the Internet a little more difficult for me though.

It was a 5hour round trip on the Autobahn to get the “little weasel”, but I think it paid off. The motor is in really nice condition, looks almost new and started on the first crank.

It was sold by accident. The older gentleman that owns it, asked his son-in-law to sell two of three engines he had in the garage and he did. Just not the right ones, the one he wanted to keep is now at our place.

He also listed it as a 5HP, the motor is stamped as a 6HP. His loss my gain. He was a really nice old school boat guy. Mad at his son-in-law, but glad his motor found a good home.

I had hoped it would be a 7.5, but a 6, is still better than the 4.5 I found in the BRP list, and the as advertised 5hp on E-Bay.

I would like to thank his son-in-law & E-Bay for this one.

P.S. What does the “Derated” mean? Could this be a HP reduced 7.5 motor? In Germany they do this quite often to bring it under the limit required for a boat license.

Thanks again!

I'm not familiar with the motor, but I expect the "derated" does mean a larger motor restricted down so it produces less horsepower.
