Im listing this question in hopes for getting the right info on a motor i recently received with a boat purchase.Im looking for the year of this motor and trying to find any info that might help me on hooking it up with the boat. The guy I received it from said it was last ran about two years ago and ran very well. This is definately a fixer up project as from what i can see-mainly from lOoking at the wiring box.For example, there is from what it looks to be a battery cable about 1/2 inch in diameter that is severed from its other half that has what it seems to be a rusted metal box with a single button on it-IT LOOKS TO BE RUNNING FROM THE CONSOLE TO THE REAR-(i have no idea what this is for-also at the end of these cables it has metal claws WITH YELLOW AND BLACK PLASTIC COVERS-IM FIGURING ONE IS POS.THE OTHER NEG?(like you see on the end of jumper cables-im guessing this goes to a battery(there is no battery with this boat)if thats what it is?
as for what i know of the engine-this is what i know
the model # 80653c
serial#E01395
IT SAYS SPEEDIFOUR ON THE OUTER SHELL AND IT IS A 80HP ELECTRIC START
IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME ON THIS SUBJECT OR GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION I WOULD GLADLY APPRECIATE THAT VERY MUCH
ALSO THE BOAT CAME WITH NO PROP-DOES ANYONE KNOW WHICH ONE OR WHAT MODEL WOULD WORK FOR THIS.
OR A BOOK THAT MIGHT HELP(PREFEABLLY BOATING FOR DUMMIES:)
TRULY
GIO
AKA"POSSIBLY IN OVER MY HEAD)
P.S. IF I HAD A SHOP FIX THIS PROBLEM-IF THEY WOULD DO SUCH A THING-WHAT AM I LOOKING AT PRICE WISE-OR IS THAT NOT A GOOD IDEA?

Re: EVINRUDE MOTOR?YEAR?HELP

Hi Sub
Your motor is a 1966 80hp evinrude. I have no idea what kind of mess the wireing is in. It dosen't sound good, and of course you'll want to rectify that before use. Nothing beats haveing things profionly done. You might find a dealer a little reluctant to work on your rig. Because he knows he'll have to charge you more than your unit is worth. So this makes for an interesting project for you. I suggest you get a manual that covers your motor. You can get them here at Iboats or visit your public library.
