Your outboard can be found in the "Intertec" service manual Vol I which covers motors below 30 hp from 1969

Re: Evinrude: need help to check age of motor

Hi Florian,
There isn't really a code for the older Evinrude model numbers, rather it's looked up in a listing. The 18002 is the model number. The E usually stands for electric starting. The latter 5-digits are the serial number for that model and year. In other words, your motor is the 22,504th 18hp Evinrude made in 1970.
As for a manual, there are several aftermarket manuals available through Intertec, Seloc, Clymer, etc. that cover a range of outboards, including yours. Amazon.com carries some of these...
- Scott

PS
Chinewalker,
if E stand usually for electric starter, does this mean motor was originally fitted with starter or was this just an option?
Florian
