Evinrude on Blue Fin - what prop?

I just purchased a 1984 Blue Fin 16' aluminum boat as a complete restoration project. It has a 1984 Evinrude 70 hp. The current prop is rather beat up and I can't find the size stamped anywhere on it. I was offered a stainless prop, either 14x19 or 12.75x21.

I don't know that the 14" diameter will even fit the outboard. And I don't know if 19 and 21 pitch are proper for the boat. From reading through other threads, it's looking like I need a 14 pitch prop for my boat/outboard setup. I don't have a tach yet and can't run the boat with GPS as everything is iced over here in NY.

Can anyone suggest the proper size prop for 70 hp evinrude on a 16 foot blue fin aluminum hull that will be used for river fishing.

Thank you.

There must be charts somewhere where you can specify boat characteristics, overall weight and engine HP to provide a correct prop pitch from where to start for your current combo.

That sounds like a lot of power for a 16' Aluminum boat? I'd try both props, if they are offered, what have you got to lose? Personally I think the 19" pitch is about right for this combo, if you can get it to fit?

A better description of what model Blue Fin you have would help; but a 13.25 X 17 pitch sounds about right.

That's what I run on my 16 ft Crestliner/70 hp Johnson with a dry weight of about 1000 lbs.

+1 for the 13.xx X 17 pitch. A 3 blade Solas Rubex would only set you back $110 with good blade geometry.

Did you look on the end of the hub for a number?
