I called Ken Cook company and found that I can buy an owner's manual for $37 or a repair/shop manual for $78. Which would you recommend more??? I wasn't sure if the repair manual would essentially contain most of the same information as the owner's manual with a bunch of additional information, making the owner's manual less necessary.

there is not much in the owners manual. repair is just that, covers the complete motor. Maintenance, and repair. what are you wanting to know.

Re: Evinrude Owner's/Repair Manual

Well I guess for starters, I want to replace my water pump at some point in the next few months. Also, I was recently at the tail-end of a week long fishing trip at which point I noticed that I had to turn my throttle pretty far before I received any response. It still seemed to do about the same at WOT but as far as slow-moving, not much happened in the early stages of moving off of idle. I took off the cowl and just by playing around with it in my driveway, I think I have a general idea of what adjustment needs to be made but I don't want to mess anything up. Regardless, as a new boat owner I want to be able to take care of my own problems when they arise as often as possible. Based on your comments, I would lean toward skipping the owner's manual and getting the repair manual, right?

I bought the owner manual by mistake,
you already know more than it contains.:D

$40 for 40 pages, wish I could get into that racket.

the service manual is a treat to read, very logically laid out with lots of photos.

Skip the owner's manual unless its a collector motor. Even then, I'd look for an original not a repro. Buy the service manual. It'll tell you how to do all the maintenance you need.
