I have a 1975 Evinrude Power Pilot that I probably misnamed somewhere in my several postings here or maybe else where; sorry! Anyway, an exploded parts diagram I found on the web confused me because I couldn't figure out which bolts, screws, etc. allowed me to access the identified ignition switch. Because I am not particularly "mechanically-intelligent," does any one know if the Pilot ignition switch is accessed by loosening bolts, screws, etc. UNDER the Pilot. Unfortunately, I'm tapping away like crazy at home, and the boat is in storage about 20 miles away and I can't get there until Sunday. Any input you may have will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

To get at the switch, you must split the case. First, remove the lower cover from the case. I believe that will allow you access to the bolts that mount the control to the boat. Once removed from boat, remove cables from attachments inside the box - makes it easier to maneuver the box around if you're not dealing with them. There are screws on the back of the box that hold the two halves of the case together. Remove them, as well as the pleather cap (if it's still present) on top. I can't recall for sure if the throttle/shift handle needs to be removed to split - may need to be... Once split, you'll see the key switch and related wiring. Do one wire at a time, noting the letter at the base of each one so you can get them to the right post on the new switch...
