evinrude pressure tank fuel line question

Hey all I have a question on what is a good length for the dual fuel/air line for my 56 sportwin 10. I rebuilt the tank and fitting. While it was all apart I was checking out the lines and saw some spots were dry rotted. I want to cut out the bad parts because most of the line is good just a couple of feet on the ends are bad. I just wanted to know if it requires a specific length to work properly for the pressure or if it really don't matter. I can still get a good 5 to 6 feet of good hose that's more than I need for where I put the tank in the boat. Thanks in advance

If part of the fuel hose was rotten the rest is old too. Why save $25 to just do it all over again in a short time and run the risk of a fuel spill? I'd vote for getting an all new hose.

I definitely agree on the new line and I am getting a new one. Problem is I just spent over 100 bucks on an impeller and a bunch of gaskets and other stuff for the motor and the wife is getting...let's just say not understanding lol so if I can get a couple weeks of fishing without spending more at the moment and keep the wife happy too I'll cut down the lines. I just wanted to know if there was a too short limit on the lines or if it don't mater as long as I have no leaks. Thanks for the insight

As long as it reaches from here to there and doesn't leak, it will work just fine.
But still, put replacing it on your short list.

Thanks uncle Willie that was just the answer I was looking for and kinda what I figured. This is the first outboard I worked on with the pressure tank so this is uncharted territory for me. Plus I got the motor for free 2 years ago and I had it on the water 1 time since then. I'm a carpenter by trade and live on the jersey shore and ever since hurricane Sandy I have had zero time to work on the motor till now and my son is getting impatient wants to go fluke fishing.

Good luck and hopefully not another hurricane this year. If you sometimes take your Admiral with you there's an easy way to convince her to spend another $25 for fuel hose. Tell her that you are just concerned about her safety when she's on board. The old fuel hose may rupture and fuel is highly flammable.....

this should be moved to the johnson/evinrude forum.....but, if you plan on running it on that old line , i would strongly suggest spending an extra $10 on an inline filter, and put it as close to the motor connector as possible. todays fuels break down the old lines and will cause issues.

I agree you shouldn't have to spend another $10 when you spent all that money already. I mean gasoline isn't dangerous at all so who cares.

Not.

A minor leak on a single line tank and you might have a leak and maybe you'll blow up if your buddy smokes. For your motor, that same leak and the motor won't run and you'll get stranded. So, if you save the $10 be sure to buy a set of oars.

Bottom line is that if you don't replace that really cheap piece of hose you're on your own. If you don't know whwre to get it we can provide a link. 4', 6', 8', OK, but I wouldn't go 20'.

Thanks to all for the advice. Like I said before I am definitely getting new fuel hoses. Around my area I only need to get out 50 yards for fluke and I always bring some paddles lol. I'm going to tinker a bit more with the tank this afternoon after work because after I rebuilt the tank it seems not to be priming now. It went back together exactly how it was (at least I'm 99.9% sure) if it's not one thing it's another.
