Re: Evinrude Problems

Welcome aboard!
I believe I would do a compression check first of all to verify we have even numbers.
After it died the first time, when you restarted did it turn over in a normal fashion, or did it want to drag a bit????

Re: Evinrude Problems

It could have ingested some crap of some sort, and is now plugging off the fuel flow, or...it could be water in the system.
You might want to disconnect the fuel line at the engine, off-seat the ball in the connector and pump the bulb SLOWLY and collect a sample in a glass jar...let it set for a few minutes and examine the contents in the bottom of the glass.
I would also pull the plugs and take a look at them and see how they look color-wise and whether they are dry or slightly wet. I think you need to go ahead with a compression check as well.

Re: Evinrude Problems

Remove one of the jet plug covers on the carb and see if any fuel drains out.
Have you looked into the fuel pump???
If you get to try it again, see if the bulb stays fairly solid and does not cave in...
Have you checked over your fuel lines and connections real well??

Re: Evinrude Problems

If your carb was full of oil, we have 2 possibilities...
#1. remove VRO cap if your using the VRO...turn it upside down and notice the hole in the center..push a paperclip through until the diaphram lets the pin through ...it doesn't take much...This will allow the pressure to release through the cap insted of forcing oil into the carbs as fuel evaporates.
#2 issue, and again, this would be if you are using the VRO oil system...We might have a leak between the fuel side and the oil side if I'm not mistaken on year model....
Before I go any farther, can you confirm you have VRO and not pre-mixing oil?

Boater - The moderators who keep this site running smoothly (most of the time) encourage that we limit a thread to the problem originally posted. That helps avoid confusion. Imagine if all who had Evinrude problems jumped in here.

They also will discourage posting the same problem in multiple places. This also avoids confusion and results in all information about a problem being posted in one place which is good for ont only the poster with the problem but to those who come here to learn from others.
