My 1970 model 70873c will run at wot, then when slowing to run in no wake zone, or approaching dock. After wot, it dies. It takes approx a minute at the shortest time. Idles and wot on muffs in or out of gear. I know, this is a no load situation.
I am a non believer in parts changing to cure a problem. Plugs look good. Since it runs very smooth at idle on muffs, i checked the fuel pump.
The diaphram is very stretched. If this is like small engines, this may be my problem. I am going to try continually pumping the primer bulb.
Is this a good test for poor fuel pump performance, if engine does not stall.
As i said, i am not a parts changer or carb rebuild fan. Too many years running dirty engines.
Carbs were rebuilt last year.

Re: Evinrude runs at wot and then stalls out at idle running

Fuel supply via fuel pump is not my problem.
The stupid instructions for Idle adjustments in the Clymer Manual show adjusting a Screw on the Motor that does not exist.
I have noticed that the shift to Forward has approximately 25 % travel before Thrrottle responds. Adjusting In and Out on Throttle Cable at Motor, does not cure the problem. No adjustments are shown for the Johnson Single Lever Control Station. Anyone know of adjustment procedure/possible incorrect cable attachment in the Control Station?
Thanks for your suggestions.

i too need this info. have alot of play while engaging forward till it actually tries to move and raise throttle. and USUALLY it tries/does die from going from neutral to forward unless i do it fast enough. also has really hard time idling. W.O.T. works awesome. johnson 140 sea drive. was told it was a 1979 model.
