Hey y'all, I am new to iboats with a few questions. I tried doing a search and got pieces of what I am looking for but I get confused reading so many different forums. I recently (yesterday) bought a Evinrude Sportwin 10 which I was told running last summer but had not had it out yet this year. I mounted it on a large tub of water, hooked some gas up, checked for spark and tried to start it. No luck. I am not very familiar with outboards,1969 85hp Johnson no more start also, I just wanted something for my fishing boat so I don't have to use the trolling motor all the time. I am hoping for some help on maybe things to check or do to try and get it started.

Also I am curious what year it is. I have seen many people reply to year posts and was wondering is that in the repair manual or is there a site I can get that kind of information? The serial number is 10020-02763.

Lastly the gas tank that came with it says one qt. oil for 6gal which would make it 24:1, is that right?

Thanks to any and all replies. :)

Re: Evinrude Sportwin Questions

Howdy and welcome, Fiberform.

Your engine is a 1960, and yes, 24:1 is the correct mix.

Spark plugs should be Champion J4C (replaced the J4J) gapped at .030".

Points in the magnetos should be set to .020" gap, fully open.

There is a troubleshooting guide for outboards that wont start in the Engine FAQs section. Check that out and let us know what you find.

Good luck. :)

Re: Evinrude Sportwin Questions

Thanks, I found the FAQ after I made my post of course. I will try and troubleshoot this week and see what I come up with.
