evinrude spray help

hi to all <br />i have got a old 1971 evinrude outboard but to be honest its seen better days so i decided to spray it, the engine is blue i was thinking of spraying it black or is it best to leave it original colors ?<br />also i have been to my local car shop and they tell me that 2 pack will do the job is this ok ?<br /><br />any links or help would be apprechated <br />regards brad

You can paint your engine any color you want. As long as you don't spray the paint into the carbs or somehting like that, the color of the cowling doesn't matter. Just take the cover off the motor and go at it.<br /><br />I don't know what you mean when you say "2 pack will do the job". Is that some kind of paint or something?

Clean any bare spots and etch them with a 50/50 mix of vinager and water. Prime the bare spots with zinc chromate primer (if available) or zinc phosphate primer if it's not.

Paul has got the right idea Brad....if it's just touch up. If yer talkin' bout the whole thing, powder coat is the way to go. Lot more work but is worth it.<br /><br />Yeah....black does go faster Quantumleap....but only if it's in "Go Fast Paint".....

thanks for all your advice <br />ive been to my local paint shop and orded go faster Quantumleap black spray i wasent shure with a colour change would loose value to the engine, i think as im a novice at this sort of things powder coating is a bit much for me so ive decided to use zinc chromate primer then 2 pack acrylic topcoat just enough to tidy this old engine up, <br />thanks again regards brad
