I have this old sportwin 10. I need to know the gas mix on this. The gas can shows 16:1 but it isn't the can for this motor. Does anyone know the mix?

Anyone know where I can find a manual on this motor as well? Perhaps in pdf format.

Thank you,
Jeff

Hey, Bodeen!

We need to know how old. Can you give us a model number?

Chances are good that it needs a 24:1 mix, but lets find out the year; then we can be sure.

Re: Evinrude Sprtwin 10 Hp

Thanks for the help. This is kind of new to me. I am rebuilding the boat and doing quite well to this point. I even have one of those ancient minn kota trolling motors on it. Nice little 14 footer, and I hope the evinrude works as well as it is clean inside. My next chore will be to figure out all those knobs on the front :)

Thanks again,
Jeff

Re: Evinrude Sprtwin 10 Hp

hey, I have a 1972 Sportwin 9 1/2 HP. I run it with 50:1, but who knows, yours might be different! Mine is on a 14 foot jon boat, and runs pretty good. Sounds like our setups are about the same. Those knobs on the front are the rich/leans screws and adjust the air/fuel ratio on the carburetor. Some motors only have a control for the low speed, but other have it for both high and low speed. Those knobs aren't too hard to figure out. The first thing you need to do is buy a manual for your motor. They are available sometimes on ebay, or at the ken cook company.

Brent

Thanks J.B. Cornwell Let me run out to my workshop really quick and see if I can find any more information on the motor. If I come up empty, where would be a good place to look for this info on the motor?

Thanks again all,
Jeff

Re: Evinrude Sprtwin 10 Hp

Brent311 Yes it sounds like we have similar boats working there. I have two knobs on the front (one smaller) and then a choke. The one side has a lever for reverse, forward, and nuetral. If I open the front and back latches and look inside the motor, the instructions are kind of vague there too.

The only number I can find on the motor anywhere is the serial number on the tag by the hand thing. It is from Milwaukee Wisconsin :) Is the serial number the number I need to figure out the year so I can get a manual and gas mix?

Thanks again,
Jeff

Re: Evinrude Sprtwin 10 Hp

Hello Bodeen
There should be a model# and ser.# on the hang thing. Just post all the #s and we can figure it out from there. FYI the hang thing is called the transom clamp. There should also be #s on the welch plug, on the engine block. This is a little round disc about the size of a quarter. From your description, I would say your motor is a 50s model. If that is the case, you will want to run 24:1 mix. Thats a quart of oil to six gal. of gas. Let us know what you find.

Re: Evinrude Sprtwin 10 Hp

alcan, thank you. The Hand thing I was refering to is the throttle thing I guess you would call it. Where you set the speeds. The only number I can find (without taking a wrench to it) is the serial number. No model number included on that tag. That number is: 1001403009.

Thanks again,
Jeff

PS Please don't report this motor stolen :)

Your motor is a 1957 10 HP. Run on 24:1 as noted before. These are good old motors, should have the dual fuel lines with it also. Let me know if you need anymore help. Hope this info helps

Allan
gra6961@usa.net

Thank you Allan,

The only thing I need to locate now is a manual for this thing. Evinrude.com is a total waste of time for this endeavor. I didn't find anything on Ebay either. My local Marinas were a no go as well. Anyone have any ideas :) Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Hi Bodeen
There several places to obtain a manual. You could order one from I-boats. You might be able to get a model specific manual from the Ken Cook Co. Or you could go to the public library. Unless you go for the oem, you will be looking for an after market manual, clymer or seloc. The after markets cover several different models. I feel they are very good and easy to understand. They may not cover some things in depth as well as an oem. No problem, we're here. Good luck have fun with your motor.

Thanks everyone. I fired up the motor today and she ran pretty good. A little bit rough and some smoke, but it ran. The next test will be getting her on the water this weekend.

Thanks,
Jeff
