i have an evinrude 85 starflite, 1974 model.the tilt/trim pump motor is bad.i have been told that the company that made that motor has went out of business, & parts are hard to find. i would like to know where i can find one of these,or if there are any other motors that used this type that would interchange.the pump motor and pump are inline in the same case, and mounted outside the hull.thank you for any help you can give!

Beam,

Believe it or not, check-regularly-e-bay! You would be surprised at all the old John/Rude parts showing up lately.

Also, that motor may be rebuildable. Check around some local alternator and starter rebuild shops. They may have the bushings, brushes, etc. to rebuild it.

Don't discount appliance shops that specialize in small electric motors.

Hi Guys,

I have been wondering why tilt/trim systems are so expensive..

I would have thought that the rams would be the most valuable part of a tilt/trim, but it appears to be the pump and motor..

why is that ? they seem fairly simple in operation and construction, so I don't understand why they are so expensive..

in many cases, an aftermarket unit costs more then the outboard its going on in many cases, (for older outboards..)

rgds

Frank
