One cold day in Alabama (go figure) I go out side and find my trim motor running on my Evinrude 60 (1996). It only stops if I hold down the trim switch on the cowling and I end up pulling one of the solenoids. I replace one of the solenoids and the cowling trim works fine but now the throttle trim does not work. It all worked fine two months ago!! HELP!!!

Re: Evinrude trim problem!

Hi Delta dog, Check the wiring from the switch on the throttle, it has a plug or connector located approx a 18 inches away from the switch. I have found this connectoer gets wet and corrodes giving you this problem. You can also check the switch at this location to see if the switch is faulty.

Thanks Iceman,

After cleaning out the ants that made a home, the switch is now at least wanting to work. I think some more cleaning should do it but am having a hard time splitting the throttle handle apart. I do no want to break it and I do not see any screws holding it together.
