Hi, I just bought my first boat and the engine appears to be a 1979 Evinrude 55hp Triumph. The model number is 55873R and the SN is JO3528. There is a plate on the cowling that says it's a 1979 Evinrude. I've been searching the net for info and the only references to a 55ph Evinrude Triumph is a 1969 model. Could I have a 1969 with a replacement cowling? The controls in the boat match the motor, and the boat is a 1968 Glastron Futura V153. Also, if anyone does know what my engine is, could they also tell me what kind of prop to get. The one that's on there has a nick in one of the blades the size of a dime. Thanks.

Re: Evinrude Triumph 55ph question

Your serial number says that it is a 1968, I'd say original to the whole rig, they didn't put any year model on shrouds. If the boat has a tach,5300-5500 RPM should be about right and a 17" pitch would be be a good quess. Take the prop off and read the numbers like 131/4 X 17, diameter X pitch. New aluminum prop -+$135.00, repair old prop (aluminum?) -+$50.00. It may or may not be the best prop, a lot of old engines tend to get whatever is cheap, so know the rpm before you spend any money. Top speed about 38.
For model number/year info, www.evinrudeoutboards.com go to Docktalk
Backfire ;)
