Take off the cowl. On the top of the head there should be a welch plug. It looks like a quarter, about the same size. It will have the model number on it, post that number and we can help with the year.

The hood looks like a 1983 model. If the engine has two (2) small fuel pumps, consider it so.

If it indeed has a VRO type fuel/oil pump, it might be a 1984 model.

These are the only two models that I see in my books that have that color design and decal.

OMC's code is the word INTRODUCES. each letter represents a number such as:

I-N-T-R-O-D-U-C-E
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0

E150TLCRD

E = Evinrude
150 = Horsepower
T = Power Tilt/Trim
L = Long Shaft (20")
C = 8
R = 4 (CR = 84 = 1984)
D = Factory Run Number (Of no consequence)

Re: evinrude v6 150 hp help

Is in fact an 84, you simply use the word/code INTRODUCES

I=1
N=2
T=3
R=4
O=5
D=6
U=7
C=8
E=9
S=0

The E stands for Evinrude of course, 150hp, the T indicates power trim/tilt, the E stands for Electric Start, and the L Long Shaft. The last number in the model number is just the model run number, not used for much. You use the second and third last letters in the model number to determine the year. Hope this helps.

edit: LOL feel silly, Joe beat me to it.

As long as it doesn't have the dreaded F in the model number,
no way yours could , its from way before they made the fatal Ficht mistake.
Take the vital statistics, thats the only way to know if the compression is good and spark can jump 7/16th inch.
Do a full maintenance if you don't know where its at, then a run in the water.
Water pump impellor
rebuild carbs with new kits
change gear oil and drain plug seals
champion sparkplugs ( no substitutes)
check prop shaft for fishing line
, well theres more but I wouldn't do much until you get the factory shop manual if you aren't too familiar.
