I'm working on a Evenrude swap An 88 for an older 110???

The Vro was disconnected a long time ago.Still has the VRO pump(gonna change that over too).
There are oil lines??? Small hoses (4) from the intake manufold to the powerhead.
Should these be blocked or replaced?
They are cracked and broken.
I wonder will this contribute to sucking air and not run right???

Thanks,Jerry

You can send me a PM as I'm gonna do this first thing in the AM and need to know, before I wrap it all back up????
Thanks!!!

Re: Evinrude VRO Disconnect

The small lines are for the oil recirculation system in the p/h. If they are capped you could foul plugs at idle. Replace the lines.

Oil recirc??? VRO is unhooked.
I was gonna replace as getting the tiny plugs would be a bugger!!!

Thanks.

Re: Evinrude VRO Disconnect

I had that problem a few weeks ago-- the angle is too sharp for those old brittle lines. Didn't seem to affect performance too much, but that oil gets all over. It takes unburned oil/gas and rather than spewing it out in the exhaust, it gets re-circulated into the carbs.

Mtrs have had recirculation systems on them since the 50's and they have to function to make the mtr work properly.

Re: Evinrude VRO Disconnect

You are correct, the recirc systems draw excess fuel/oil from behind the reed boxes and recirculates it back into the engine for combustion. It helps the engine idle better. If the hoses are cracked, leaking-it is messy and affords the opportunity for extra air to get into the fuel system. That contributes to a lean condition-probably best to repair those tiny hoses sooner rather than later.
