strange how you only hear the e-tech, that yamaha was probably only in gear .... makes you think .... especially when they only focus on the e-tech all the time in the beginning, so they were out to make yamaha bad ...... if yamaha had exactly the same test with the same boats and motors I am sure they will sink the e-tech ...... competative advertising ... i love it

When I was young (real young) I used to do this with a buddy on the river. I had a 1 cyl 7.5hp air cooled Eska and he had a Johnson 6hp twin back to back. We found that who ever started first won. Every time. And it you watch the video, the Evinrude definitely starts first. Just my POV!

I like how people who like a certain brand make allowances for there defeat. How about, who cares, if you like a certain brand why let anyone try and sway you. I am sure you Yammy guys like them for other reasons, other than just low end torque....LOL! At least, after watching the video, I hope so......LOL!

E-Tec is a sweet engine but they only say "propped to manufacturers specs" you could increase the torque easily by putting a low pitched propeller on the E-Tec and a higher one on the the Yamaha. Even still that was pretty incredible.

Man I must have watched this thing a thousand times. The Yamaha (on the left of the screen) gets a huge head start.

OK, maybe the Yammy idles off first at the start but the real prop wash starts behind the Evinrude a tad later showing he gunned it first.

And another thing, why is the Yammy prop already stopped spinning when it flips over? Seems kinda quick!

I agree that the Yammy started first but the truth is it simply takes those big four strokes a bit longer to spool up. First movement should provide an advantage since the force against the prop trying to go forward but also having the reverse motion of the boat working against it taxes the engine even more. By starting first, theoretically the Yammie should have had an advantage. Had it been a 100% even start this probably would have appeared even more lopsided. If you think this wasn't rehearsed before this video was shot, I have some ocean front property in Phoenix I'd like to sell you. What I find a little "over the top" about this is sinking the boat. Totally unnecessary to prove a point regardless whether or not it was a fair test. But hey -- I'm and E-tec guy that owns a Merc that used to own an Evinrude. The last Yammie shop I was in I got chased out of because I asked too many questions about the dozen plus Yammie four stroke blocks lined up on the floor, all with holes in the block and innards sticking out of them.

I think what you are seeing is the strap getting tight on the surface of the water, not prop wash, but I could be wrong. Watch it again.

Hey Silver, man we have a lot in common. I have been thrown out of more places than I can count and invited to leave by most of my neighbors because I say what I think and am not a biggot.

Like you said, if the floor is full of blown engines, a prospective buyer would certainly be entitled to an explanation.

Who knows, the dealer could have sold 1000 engines to race drivers and this is only a few 10ths of a percent of the lot which would be a great reliability statement. But you wouldn't know that if you didn't ask the questions. d
