Hello. Thanks for helping this dummy out. I have an Evinrude 140 (1985), I started it up while on the trailer with the ears put on. No issues considering it had not been run for about 6-7 months. I only ran it about 5 mintues.
I replaced the fishfinder and did the re-wiring exactly as the old fishfinder was. I was exteremely careful to make sure I did it exactly the same. (I never powered on the old fishfinder ever, so I cant tell if it worked fine). Old fishfinder was an Eagle, the new one is a Lowrance.
I started the engine on the trailer once more to make sure everything, meaning engine start-up, still worked. It started.
Put boat in water the next day, the boat started and I tied it up to my pier which is about 100 feet from the ramp.
A few hours later, I went back out to boat tried to start it and all I got was a beep. I slow trickle charged both the batteries, made sure all panel switches were off. The charger had them both at about 50% when they started.
After the slow trickle charge was complete for both batteries, I tried to start the engine once more, again, only the alarm sound.
I have not plugged the fishfinder in yet to see if it works because of the engine not starting.
Did I screw somethign up with the wiring? I thought I was okay because it did start after having all wiring completed.
Is this something as simple as my batteries have just died and the timing was just a coincidence with launching?
Or my bigger fear, did I burn something in the engine?
Thanks.
