Hi guys.
Thanks for all the swell links and help, I updated and put a picture of the 1975 Johnson 9.9 in my post below, it's a before restoration, notice the paint in a 1973 9.5 dark green I used years ago..hey it was the only OMC green they had in stock at the local dealer, what can I say other than it's the corect color now. Iboats can get the BRP/OMC paint, it's still availlable in spray cans.

Below is a picture of my 1949 Evinrude Zephyr 5.4 hp, 4 cylinders, vertically opposed, rotary valve crankshaft induction. If anyone here has taken one apart, or has the tune up information, as to gap, timing, spark plug type, it would be much appreciated. I'm also looking for somebody who knows how to reseal the gearcase, and who has the seals and such.

Included is a picture of the 1954 CD11 5- 1/2 HP Johnson Sea Horse I just restored. The paint I had custom mixed at the local autobody supply in a couple spray cans, decals from Antique Outboard supply, the sent me an extra when I screwed one up, nice people there. Got the coils, plugs, wire, impeller, carb kit, fuel line, and gaskets from IBOATS, thanks. This engine had a holed case that had been repaired, with new rods and pistons, but was over heating. The owner gave up, and gifted it to me. We found what was chopped up fine pieces of paper towel had plugged up the main water passage way in the block! Got it out with a long drill and a .30 cal rifle brush. "Make sure that trash can is clean before running an engine in it next time!" I told him with a smile. We added the small rectangular Mikuni pump and use a single line tank for simplicity, and compatability with the 1975 9.9.

BTW I had to remove the welch plug on the low speed circuit and clean it to get the 5.5 running right, shouda done right the first time!

Re: Evinrude Zephyr help

1949 was the only year the Zephyr came with a weedless prop. Keep it. It's kinda rare, eventhough it's a Zephyr. It's also the only year of Zephyr, that is turnable 360 degrees. I see your fuel tank is the sheetmetal style. They came in sheetmetal or cast in the Zephyr. Unfortunately, the sheetmetal type were more prone to dents.

I think a J6C spark plug would work out just fine and gapped at .030. Set the points at .020. They are the gillatine set up, like the old TD-20 Johnsons.

I've actually restored two of those buggers. A 1946 (my avitar) and a 1947. If you need any parts for it, I would try Engine Blade and Prop, or post a want ad at the AOMCI website.
