I was doing a roofing job an a co-workers house, and stumbled upon a old boat motor in the garage rafters. It was put up there in the fall of 1972, and never moved. I was teasing the old man about the motor a few times and about 2 years later, I was visiting with them, he brought out the motor and gave it to me. The motor was in rough shape. It was painted purple and black (his kids pissed him off for over spray on the motor so he put it up and forgot about it). I cleaned it up, cleaned the original plugs, added gas, and after a few tries, it fired up. I put it on the boat for a spin and it will only run on fast. It does leak fuel, but I figured the seals could be dried out.

Any reason the motor will not start or stay running on anything other then FAST?

It's either a 1947 or 1949 Zephyr.

My guess is a carb issue, maybe do a link and sync (timing) and adjust the idles screws and air fuel mix.

The motor has 2 throttle controls one on the tiller and one on the front of the motor make sure they are both set to slow. One controls timing and one controls the carb linkage. They are fun little motors but complicated
