I AM TRYING TO CHANGE THE WATER INPELLER ON A 1961 EVINRUDE 5 AND HALF HORSE BUT CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET SHIFT ROD LOSE PLEASE HELP???

Rigger,<br /><br />There should be a small plate on the side of the exhaust housing (mid section) that has two screws. Remove this plate and there is a clamp block inside. Loosen the screws on the clamp block to release the lower end of the shift shaft.

You have to take off the powerhead - under the power head is a connector.
