Excessive play in mercontrol shift box

Evening guys..Anybody ever had an older mercontrol shifter apart? Are there any replacable parts in there such as detents etc? If possible I would like to get a more positive feel out of it.

Ayuh,... That's an old 1,... I donno's you can get parts for it,... or not,...

I'm look through a Mercruiser parts look-up site 1st,.....

Not that I wouldn't take it apart anyways,.... That's how I've learned how to put things Together,....
