I have a 235 mb .wmv file of a local townhall meeting that I spoke at. I would like to cut out my segment and save it so I can send it to friends an family.

Does anyone know how I might do this?

Windows Movie Maker will do it for you and it is free with your copy of Windows or can be downloaded from Microsoft IIRC.Ron G

I googled WMM and all links take me back to a microsoft website that wants me to sign up for automatic updates and to get the WMM along with SP2. I already have SP2 and I don't want automatic updates. I have my computer set for 'automatic update notification'.

For any who are interested, if you have SP2 you probably have MOVIE MAKER 2.1 onboard even if a search does not locate it.

I emailed Microsoft and they referred me to Microsoft Newsgroups where just such a question had already been asked:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?query=movie+maker&dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general&cat=en-us-ms-winxp&lang=en&cr=US&pt=&catlist=B0DE109D-10E1-4C3C-BCC9-8EB7A22FC6A0&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us

Here were the instructions to locate it on your system:

Perform the following:

1. Right-click on your Desktop and select: NEW > SHORTCUT
2. In the Create Shortcut window, type in:
"C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\moviemk.exe" , and click "Next"
3. In the next window, type in: Windows Movie Maker , and click "Finish"
4. A Windows Movie Maker shortcut icon will appear on your Desktop.

Follow thru even if you get the message that the program cannot be found. It will place the icon on your desktop and you can then open the program.
