I am a new boat owner and my exhaust bellow has holes all through it. I want to replace but don't know how to get to it. Also, the shop said my shift cable needs realigned what are the settings for this. Finally what is the exhaust riser?

the next thing you need to buy is a repair manual, imho, either a mfg specific or seloc. they have good info and pictures on almost all subjects. you need to give the type engine and outdrive also, but in general, the bellows is usually held on by pipe clamps and glue. it is the easiest of the 3 to replace. but check all three for cracking and leaks. raise outdrive and look around. there are a lot of post and websites on this subject. don't know about cable realignment, do you mean adjustment? again, look for posts and websites. i know what an exhaust manifold is, exhaust elbow is, not sure what the riser part is specifically, someone else will.

the entire website referenced above is very good, especially if you don't have a manual. lots of topics and illustrations.

Brandon, You will want to replace all three bellows and perhaps the lower shift cable. Pick up a manual and follow the instructions, except for the following.

The manual will tell you to put one bellow on the transom plate and one on the outdrive and pull the bellows onto the outdrive with a special tool. I have not had any luck (or the special tool) doing it this way. I recommend you put both bellows on the outdrive, push the outdrive close to the transom plate and push the bellows onto the transom plate using a your fingers and a blunt tire iron or something like it. I expect this job will take some time the first time.

The exhaust riser is the piece of iron that sits on top of the exhaust manifold, and allows the exhaust to exit the engine. It is usually elbow shaped and connected by a rubber hose to the rest of the exhaust system
